Amazing Transformation

The first time I walked into this house I wasn't much impressed; yes, it was in one of the coolest cities in the country surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, and yes it was at the very end of a narrow paved... path, not really wide enough to be called a road so, yes, there was the solitude which only made the landscape that much more inspiring, and yes, I have seen what the architects who designed the project can do, but I wasn't impressed.

I was delivering our circle-sawn salty fir boards for the ceiling deck; the workers quickly unloaded the trailer and stacked the boards neatly under cover while I made my way around. As is more common for me these days this was a remodel and as I made my way through the very 70's ish house looking at painted beams, t-111 siding on the ceiling, also painted, & the akward layout which had the front door on one end of the house, the garage & covered parking in the middle & the master bedroom on the other side. I just couldn't see what these great architects & innovative builder were going to do to make this the model of elegance combined with rustic flair I had seen so many times before.

That first visit was early last year & I was headed through town again & checked with the builder about shooting a few photos as I had since delivered reclaimed redwood picklewood for doors & Walnut FullSawn Flooring. I wanted pictures of both & the home was nearly complete so a perfect time to snap a few shots & be on my way. I was stunned as I walked in; the materials & finishes had completely transformed the home & the builder had created a series of doors from the redwood which were all of unique design; I started shoot photos & quickly wished I had planned several hours, instead of a few minutes, for the shoot. Everywhere I turned was something cool & photo worthy, but I had appointments; I couldn't stay.

The photos were hastily taken while I was painfully aware that the lighting was off & I needed to stage the shots better & because work was still going on, clean up a bit. I did the best I could, but the photos don't do the project the justice it deserves.
